Patio sliding doors can be an excellent addition to any house, but maintaining them could make it easier to close and open. It could damage the door frame and hardware and result in the door falling off the tracks. Here are four steps to keep the sliding door operating correctly.
Clean the Rollers and Tracks
A buildup of leaves, dirt, and other debris may block the rollers, causing the door to become stuck. It is best to wash your tracks once per month. Remove the panels carefully and then vacuum up any loose debris. Then, apply the warm water with soap or blend with white vinegar to wash off any dirt. Scrub using the toothbrush to get rid of accumulated land, and then apply a butter knife covered in a paper towel to scrub the tiny grooves.
Check the Alignment of the Door
If your sliding door cannot move effortlessly after cleaning your tracks, adjust the screws that keep the rollers. On either end of the door, at the bottom, they allow you to alter the elevation of your sliding doors and will enable it to slide more smoothly. If the door is sagging off its tracks, you can insert the top rollers in the upper path and then gradually help the door’s bottom to the position.
Replace the Weatherstripping
Weatherstripping plays a vital role as it keeps dirt out of the tracks. It also stops water from getting through the door. In time the sealant’s rubber may fail or break. If this happens, remove the staples using a flathead screwdriver, and then use pliers to remove the weatherstripping previously in place. Apply the brand-new weatherstripping to the product’s directions, ensuring that it’s aligned properly.
In Winter, Remove the Screen
If your patio door’s sliding screen is open to the elements, you should remove it during the autumn. In winter storms, harsh conditions could cause the screen to warp its frame and even tear off the net. Additionally, the screen could hold moisture and snow around the edge of the patio door, which can cause more damage. It is also a great time to clean the screen and look for any rips or tears that might need to be repaired or replaced.
