Tint is one visible characteristic of a solar-control film. Modern film constructions can differ significantly in how they transmit visible light, reflect solar energy, absorb heat and appear from the street.
A very dark product may reduce glare but make the room feel dim, particularly on cloudy days or north-facing walls. A lighter film may preserve the view while providing less of the solar performance expected for a west-facing family room.

For solar-control tint, review samples from inside and outside. Consider neighbouring windows too: one tinted pane can look noticeably different on an otherwise consistent elevation.
