Reduce UV without turning every window dark

Ultraviolet light is invisible, so a film can substantially reduce UV transmission without relying on a very dark tint. That makes UV-focused products useful where the view and visible daylight remain important.

Product data should state the tested ultraviolet performance and the range of wavelengths covered. The specification—not an informal claim that a film “blocks the sun”—is what should guide comparison.

Fading Has Multiple Causes

UV reduction helps, but it cannot stop every colour change

Materials fade at different rates. Their dyes, finishes, exposure and indoor environment all influence the outcome.

Ultraviolet exposure

UV can break down colourants and material surfaces. UV-reducing film directly targets this part of the exposure.

Visible light and heat

Bright visible light and elevated temperatures can also contribute. A clear UV film does not necessarily provide strong solar-heat or glare control.

Time and material sensitivity

Some fabrics, woods, papers, inks and artworks are especially sensitive. No film can guarantee that fading will stop completely.

Prioritize the most exposed and valuable areas

Film can be considered for rooms where sunlight reaches wood floors, upholstered furniture, drapery, photographs, collections or retail-style displays inside the home.

Before treating every pane, observe the room over a clear day. Note which windows receive direct sun, how far it travels across the floor and which objects are difficult to move or shade.

Selective installation may be more practical than filming every window. Curtains, blinds, exterior shade, rotating sensitive objects and controlling indoor temperature or humidity can complement the film.

Useful when the priority is UV reduction and minimal visible change. It may offer less glare or solar-heat control than a darker or more reflective product.

Show us the exposure, not just the glass

Photograph the whole room

Include the affected window and the floors, furnishings, art or displays you are trying to protect.

Note the time of direct sun

Morning, midday and late-afternoon exposure can point to different elevations and different solar conditions.

Provide approximate pane sizes

Count each separate pane and identify windows that are unusually large, overhead, difficult to reach or part of an insulated unit.

Describe the appearance you will accept

Tell us whether a slight tint or reflection is acceptable and whether matching nearby untreated glass is important.
