Glass-only service begins with a sound sash
A sealed unit—also called an insulated glass unit or thermopane—is the factory-sealed glass assembly held inside a window sash or frame. If that unit fails while the surrounding materials remain dry, stable and operable, reglazing may be the focused repair.
Windows Hamilton measures the visible opening and the glazing pocket, then documents overall thickness, spacer, coatings, grids, shape and any safety-glazing requirement. Final order dimensions must come from service measurements, not a homeowner tape estimate.
Glass replacement does not straighten a distorted sash, repair rotten wood or correct a leaking wall connection. Those conditions need a broader scope.
Recognize the Right Candidate
Three conditions support a glass-only repair
The pane, sash and installation each need their own assessment.
Sash remains stable
Glazing stops, frame corners and drainage must safely support the replacement unit.
Operation is otherwise normal
Locks, hinges or balances should work without forcing; new glass will not correct alignment problems.

What happens from assessment to installation
Can the glass be replaced without replacing the whole window?
Often, yes, when the failed insulated unit is removable and the sash, frame, stops and drainage remain serviceable. The opening must be inspected before that scope is confirmed.
What specifications are measured?
The order may require width, height, overall thickness, pane makeup, spacer, Low-E coating, gas fill, grid pattern, tint, shape and safety-glazing location.
Will the new unit match the neighbouring glass exactly?
Not always. Older coatings, spacers and grids can differ from current materials. We compare visible details and explain practical matching limits before ordering.
Does replacing the unit fix condensation on the room side?
Not necessarily. Interior-surface condensation can result from indoor humidity and cold surface temperature even when the glass seal is intact.
How long does the work take?
The first visit establishes serviceability and final measurements. The custom unit is then fabricated, and installation is scheduled after it arrives and has been checked.
What warranty applies?
The written quote should identify coverage for the new insulated unit and installation labour. It does not renew unrelated original frame or hardware warranties.

Scope boundaries prevent surprises
The quote should state which sealed unit is changing, what specifications are included and which sash, frame, hardware and finishes remain original. Access, height and removal method should also be clear.
Send wide photos and close-ups before the visit. They help identify window type, grid matching, safety location and access, but they do not replace final service measurements.
